Day 3 Pandan Island / Apo Reef Tour
This is the day we go to Apo Reef. I am quite excited about this trip. The rented tour guide came to us the night before. He gave us a briefing on what we might see there. Actually, he made my expections so high, which was the error on his part.
The boat rental here is PHP 4,500 plus tour guide rate is PHP 500. This was arranged at Sablayan Ecotourism, which charges us additional 5% on the total bill. I think this is not bad considering the service they give to the tourist.
We woke up at 4am, by 5am we were at Sablayan Pier again. We have to make an early trip so that the big waves of the open sea wouldn't catch us up.
At the approach to Apo Reef I was mesmerized by the vastness of the reef. I learned later on that we will not be hopping into this vastness… but I was curious though on what to see below.
Finally, at Apo Reef Island at last. There was already a big waves splashing into the island's reef. Our travel time was around 2.5 hours.
When we arrived at Apo Reef Island, there was a porcupine fish and some other fish ready to be cooked.

The tour guide brought us to a mangrove forest then into the Lagoon, and later on into the light house.
After that I took a swim on a beach nearby.
The tour guide announced to us that there will be changes in plan for the raft-snorkeling. This raft-snorkeling is snorkeling by being pulled the raft which is attached to the boat. I was expecting so much for this only to find out they will give as some alternatives. Blame it on the big waves of the open sea…. naah, no. I blame the tour guide. He made me hopes high. He was not realistic and not in control. Even when we were rafting from the shallow part to deeper part, two of my tourmates were wounded because of the negligence of the tour guide (I won't get into that detail anymore).
Here's the Apo Reef underwater shots.
